Hi, I'm new here so apologies if this is common knowledge.

Will MS Office install/run on Windows 8? I put Win 8 Consumer Preview on my laptop and my MS Office 07 doesn't run on it.

Thanks in advance :D

I tried loading windows 8 using the option to save all my files. It worked fine until I loaded Office 2010. Then after reboot, the PC will freeze up, sometime doing an automatic reboot and sometimes no reboot. reboots seldom get through a new login and freeze again.

I completely reloaded windows 8, this time with the "keep nothing" option. works great until I load office 2010. Then, same symptoms as brfore.

I thought I would give this forum a try brfore opting for windows 7 again.

I did eventually get it to work. Deleted Office and reinstalled it and it work no worries.

Just put 2010 on my slate (windows 8 pro), and that works great too.

Office 2010 works perfectly on my system. (Despite my hatred of Metro I do use Windows8 as my only OS on my main office machine.)
I have 64bit Win8 but use 32bit Office, the same config as I had on Win7. Microsoft recommended using 32bit on both 64and32 bit Windows 7 for the widest compatibility. The only advantage of 64bit office was for really enormous spreadsheets.

Thanks for the testimonials, but I verified that it is the office 2010 (maybe I'm in the wrong forum). I uninstalled office 2010 and the reminder of the system is solid. I wonder if the fact that I have a quad processor CPU is part of the problem.

Is there a more appropriate forum for this problem?

I am running win 8 pro and office 2010 32 bit and get sidebyside errors like this

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.mfc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_none_cbf21254470d8752\MFC80U.DLL". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50608.0" could not be found.

I tried installing C++ redistributable 64 bit but still have the errors in Event Viewer. If you ignore these errors though it is working fine.

That's a surprise to me. I'm still using Office 2003 and had no problems after upgrading the system - it works fine. I wouldn't have expected that of a newer version like 2010.

After the consumer preview, there was a release preview. And an enterprise evaluation version.

I'm running Office 2010 on the retail release version of Windows 8 without a problem. I don't think I had a problem with the preview versions either.

Try installing in compatibility mode and yes 2010 install in 64 bit fine for me.

Hi there

You don't need to install in compatibility mode --it IS supported and will install normally in either 32 or 64 bit.

I'm using the 32 bit version currently as I have some EXCEL addins that only work in the 32 bit version and I really NEED these (a lot of Stock trading add ins) for example here is a display of trading Calls and Puts (options) for MSFT for the next periods -- MSFT also trades WEEKLY options so I need the data quite frequently from the CBOE (Chicago board of Options Exchange) .

This addin doesn't work in EXCEL 64 bit version nor any version of Office 2013 - and I have quite a bit of software like this.

Office 2007 will also install just fine (but it's only 32 bit).

Cheers
jimbo

I found in the end with C++ 2005 it worked fine. With standard x64 and Office 2010 you will get sidebyside errors. Don't bother with later versions of the library - it only needs 2005.

No problems with Office 2010 x64 here. Just installed it using the installation disc and it works great!

I'm running 2010 on W8 & annoyingly I can't preview Word 2010 docs in Windows explorer. I can preview older office docs, pdf & other formats but not .docm files, is this a universal problem or a new MS non-feature?
