Have you tried mounting a wim from bog standard winre?

Give it a go and see if you can get it work.

I have thrown together ( very quickly) a little first attempt at pe.

Quite a bit of effort to overcome the extra restrictions.

Curious issue with the sound.

It pretends to be working, but I don't hear anything.

It looks like you have windows explorer with aero installed - how did you approach that on a WinRE setup?

Does it boot from a .wim or have you got it its own bootable partition, booting from the BCD?

I can't help with the sound - you haven't given much information to go on:)

I haven't given much info because I don't know what I am looking for.

You can see from the screenies that it looks as if sound is working - but I don't hear anything.

The speakers are working - I can hear a little feedback as the driver loads - that is normal on this system.

But no system sounds, no sound from youtube - nada.

I make up a boot.wim - can be put on external media like usb/cd .

When I am testing, I boot the wim up off the HD.

You should be able to get pretty much everything to work in pe -just need to include the correct files and reg. entries.

This one is a long way from ready, but my win7 pe builds are in great shape.

The guys who are normally into this kind of thing don't have much enthusiasm for win 8 - no surprise there.

I think I am ahead of everyone so far.

There are differences in the inf files for 7 & 8 - the latter has AudioEndpoint.inf, bthaudhid.inf, c_volsnap.inf, c_volume.inf, & volmgr.inf Some of these are driverless. I don't know if that gives any clues...? There of course may be others without obvious names.

Thanks for the input - I am using only win8 components - might have alook at the inf files.

BTW sound worked fine in my pe build of the previous win8 release.

The drivers are working fine.

Something is missing elsewhere - no idea what at this point.
