Issue with Notepad in Windows 8

I have an Android mobile app that allows me to take notes and saves them to a straight text file in Dropbox.
When I view the file in notepad on my Windows 8 laptop, it shows me the file with no carriage returns.
Here is an example

Chapter 1Chapter 2Chapter 3

If I open the same file in Wordpad it appears correctly

Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3

I never had this issue with my old Windows 7 laptop.
I would appreciate any insight to this issue

Notepad has a restriction where carriage returns need to be formatted exactly as it needs, while a lot of programs don't follow the required convention. You can't really fix it, and as you've found out a lot of other programs read carriage returns in several formats (including Wordpad).

One fix suggested here mentioned copying the text to word and back, which will format carriage returns correctly: windows 7 - Notepad ignoring linebreaks - Super User . It also contains some background information.
