Hi all

I would like to know if there is any good recovery software worth using to recover files from a damaged external drive(corrupted files system),or if there are any methods to fix my problem. I Have not formatted it hoping that i would find a solution. If we can find no solution then I will have to format it:(.

Formatting it will not actually solve the problem, as all that does is erase the partitioning information, while leaving the files intact.

If you didn't manually reformat the drive yourself, then you might have done something like simply disconnecting it, without safely removing it, first -- which would leave the file system in an unsafe state.

If you want to recovery the files to another drive, I would recommend using Active@File Recovery. It's the best data recovery app I've seen in a long time. You can download, install, and try it out for free -- and it only costs $30 for a license. Be prepared to wait a LONG time, though, as when I last used it on my 1.5TB shared data drive, it took 14 HOURS to do the SuperScan -- but when done, it found (as best I could tell) ALL my files and folders, and I was able to recover everything from the drive.

I actually think this has happened because of not removing the drive safely. Thanks for the advice though. Will definitely try it out. Do you have any ideas on how I can solve this problem?? I have no idea what to do actually and I'm too afraid to do anything with the drive.

Restorer has a pay-for file-recovery program, I think it has a way to blunt-force search a software-damaged internal or external HD. I have not used that program that way yet. I have MiniTool's Power Data Recovery, however, I have not tested it on a software-damaged HD. In short, this might cost a little monies, I don't remember any powerful freebie, however, before spending monies, wait and see if others enter herein and give you golden advice.
[Also, please do not remove external devices without going through the built-in safety protocol.]

Does it make any sounds,is it physically broken?
You could take it out of the external enclosure and connect it internally and see if you can recovery your files.

Does the Disk Management window shows the partition as either RAW or without a filesystem type?
Have you run chkdsk on it?
