Hi there,
I just bought a new laptop. I have some very useful programs at my old computer. I would like to know if there is a way to transfer those applications including registry keys, appdata information etc to my new laptop. I've already seen some ways to do this with some very expensive programs like Zinstall WinWin and Laplink pcmover but i would like to know if there is a free method to do this.
My old computer runs windows 7 and my new laptop 8.1.
Thanks in advance,
tosti

Export relevant registry keys (mainly under HKCU/Software), copy relevant AppData and ProgramData files. It should be part of any backup regimen that doesn't just image the disk. Before installing the programs in a new build, I merge the registry files and copy the AppData and ProgramData files. Totally free, and as reliable as you are at determining what is safe and necessary to copy. The best programs however provide dedicated options for export/import settings.

Most registry key is limited, but users can un-install the software on your computer, then activate the software like office on your PC with the key.
Even PCmover can't transfer keys.
