How to enable metro app access to child account?

Hi,

I am new to windows 8.1. After searching a lot on internet, I found most of the other people are also new to this strange creature

Coming to actual issue.

I have Windows 8.1.

I have created main admin account.

Installed game Sonic dash from market.

I have two kids. Currently, I am facing issue that points earned by my older 9 year kid is lost when same game played by my younger 4 year kid who doesn't know to play but still follows older brother, so lots of fight going on.

So, I Want to create two separate child account so that they can play game within their child account so that game settings and game points by both remains separately.

I tried the same by creating local child account. However, games installed by my main admin account doesn't appear any child account.

Does it mean I have to install same game three times, main and two child account?

I don't think this is fair and especially affordable with my 32 GB storage device where only 7 GB is available.

So basically you want the application to open as a separate application as if new for each user. Have you tried instead of using a child account you could use "Standard Account", I know you may be worried about them gaining access but we could adjust this with the UAC.

You could also try the app settings by dragging your cursor across the right hand side and click on the "settings" icon while in the application. That will give you the application settings.

Thanks for the reply.

I have even tried by giving admin rights to that account, but didn't solve the issue.
And app doesn't have any specific setting when checked in charmbar settings.

If I make question very short...
Do I have to install same metro applications multiple times if I want to use it in multiple user account?
If this is true than it will be very stupid setting by microsoft...

Short answer, yes you do.

It has nothing to do with Metro and nothing to do with whether you are an administrator. Your settings for Metro apps (and most other programs) are stored under your user profile. This is why when you sign on you get your email, your desktop pictures, your documents and so on. The actual program is shared (it is in the Windows directory) but the app needs to be installed separately for each user who wants it to make it visible and save settings.

After lots of searching, I was just coming to this conclusion.

But something you mentioned is of my interest...

Does it mean that installing program, say of 100 MB, for two account will not take 200 MB (2 times application size) but may be little more than 100 MB as main application is shared and only user data are multiple.

I have not tried but do you think that installation will again download the whole app even main app is already downloaded and will be shared?

Thats right. The actual program is stored in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps (not the Windows directory as I said before). http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-8-metro-apps-folder-location

You'll only end up with one copy even if you enable it for other accounts. Only the user data is stored separately.

Similarly the preloaded windows 8 apps (Mail, Finance, News, Cookery etc) remain in WindowsApps directory even if you remove them from all accounts. If you are having problems with disk space you can force the unwanted ones to be deleted completely as described here Update â

What I did yesterday,
I created child account, local one.
Login in to child account.
Opened windows store.
Setting and my account.
Signed in with my admin microsoft account.
The difference is, now I have local child account with only windows store linked with my microsoft account.
Searched game i was interested one.
It asked me to install.
When I clicked install, installation process hardy took 20 sec.
So, I believe, no redownload of game and there will not be any additional space.
It has used same earlier downloaded data and created user profile.

What I learnt,
Each user, either on same PC or different, local or with microsoft account, requires microsoft store to be linked with microsoft account for metro app or windows store app to be available to use.
If multiple user on same PC, and game already available for one of the user, installation process for new user only creates new profile and game will not be downloaded again.
