Solved Do Not Have Windows Media Player

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro and cannot find Windows Media Player. Everything I read keeps mentioning that versions N and KN need to download it but I cant find out what and where the download is for Windows 8.1. Pro. Help would be appreciated.

If you like, you can use step 4 in the tutorial below to download the latest version of the Media Feature Pack from Microsoft to install it for Windows Media Player.

Instead of Windows Media Player, you might want to download VLC instead. Many people consider VLC to be superior to WMP. With WMP you may need to download codec packages to be able to play all of the different media types you wish to play whereas VLC has codecs built-in for virtually all media types.

Unfortunately, not if it is a N or K version of Windows 8.1. Those editions do not have Windows Media Player included due to the law passed by the EU.

Thanks everyone for your help. I did not appear to have the N or K version of Win 8 so I thought the Media Player should have been installed.

I did go into the Features area and it was already checked, but as I say I could not find it in the Programs. So I unchecked and rechecked it but still couldn't find it. But today when I rebooted the laptop there it was in Programs, so maybe I just needed to reboot after switching off and on.

As far as VLC, I already have it installed and use it but I needed to burn a disc and I don't think VLC can do that ???

is Australia part of the Union?

Would babs2 have a N or K version?

If it is a plain vanilla version, David Bailey is right in post# 5

Babs2, please look at the properties on your computer (right click This PC, Computer or My Computer - what ever it is named - I've changed my machines and forget what W8 calls it) and tell us the version information - is there an N or K in it?

edit: Never mind ... you folks type really fast, or I type really slow (probably the latter)
