Solved Trouble deleting app

I've been having a problem with an app called Words By Post for the last 36 hours or so. Long story short, I found something in the Windows application log that suggested one of the files that make up the game was missing; I think my Avast antivirus removed that file. I decided to remedy the problem by uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it.

I went to the Start Menu (I'm running Windows 8.1), found the app and clicked uninstall. Something seemed to go wrong: I didn't get any kind of message about the uninstall being in progress or finishing but the tile disappeared. When I went to the Windows Store to try to install a new copy, it said that the app was already on my system. Clearly, I'm not going to be able to reinstall it until I fully uninstall the old copy. How do I accomplish that?

Words By Post does NOT appear in Programs and Features and it doesn't come up when I search for it on the Start menu. It *looks* like it is already gone but Windows Store clearly doesn't think so.

What is the process for removing what seems to be a partially uninstalled app so that the Windows Store sees that its gone so I can install a clean copy?

I *think* many of the questions to which I've answered "not sure" are irrelevant because it is a laptop but if you need to know specifically what model of cooling fans or keyboard or whatever where built in to the laptop, I can try to find that out if you tell me where to look. I don't see this information in the Windows/System display but maybe it is elsewhere. I'm not sure what a "PSU" is: Powe

Hi Brink,

I managed to solve the problem quite easily without doing anything dramatic. It turned out that the app was still open on my desktop, even though it had been uninstalled. I closed it, went to the Windows store, and found that it was suddenly installable. I installed it without incident. Problem solved!

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll keep it in mind if I have a similar problem down the road....
