There's no need to "run" OneDrive, it's a totally normal folder in your user profile, by default at C:\Users\Your_Username\OneDrive.

Everything you place in this folder or its subfolders (which you can create as you wish) is synced with your OneDrive. For each item you can choose it to be Available Online only or Available Offline:
  • Available Online only: File or folder stored on OneDrive cloud, only a shortcut to it on your computer in OneDrive folder
  • Available Offline: File or folder stored on OneDrive cloud, also stored locally on your computer in OneDrive folder
You can use OneDrive as a totally normal folder in your user profile.

(Screenshot from Windows 10 Technical Preview, OneDrive works and behaves exactly the same way in Windows 8 & 8.1.)

Additionally if you want you can install the OneDrive Desktop App as told in this tutorial: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/24733-onedrive-desktop-app-install-uninstall-windows.html.

Sorry, I did not know that you do not know the Windows basics. If you had mentioned that you are not familiar with Windows, I would also have explained that of course you can move the OneDrive folder wherever you want to simply by right clicking it, selecting Properties and moving it to whatever location you want to from the Location tab:

Any more complaints?

Answered my own question I think... Switch the account to a local account :)

Changing to local account will change a lot of things , you could just go into charms bar, open pc settings ,then open onedrive and turn of sync

Ah did not know I could do that! So it stops it syncing when logging in?

I guess I'm old school and the whole hotmail/outlook account thing seemed a little pointless (to me as I only have one PCs in the household on win 8) :)

no it stops it from syncing all the time ,not just at login
