I installed Microsoft Money Sunset and it works just fine in Windows 8 CP.

But when I first initialized/ran the application a VERY strange screen appeared.
Did anyone else notice this anomaly after installation?
Does anyone know WHY there were all those question marks?

I assume a font error.

Ah yes.

? as 'placeholder'; makes perfect sense.

Plausibility factor off the charts. Thanks!

Possibly the installer is referring to a font not in Windows 8, or is using a unicode format that Win 8 does not recognize.

Probably the latter, as I assume that Windows is designed to default to an available font when a specific one is unavailable.

The only thing that I'm sure of is that Windows and the temporary Money manager is disagreeing on what is to be displayed.

Hi there
Language ?? System Locale etc.

I should look at these

I had a problem with an application which did similar -- although most of the application was actually English -- I'd actually pressed the KOREAN language at install time.

While most of the menus were still in English I did get the sort of screen you got on a couple of menu choices.

Re-install the Application.

Cheers

I'm using Sunset Money n Win 8 with no problem. For those of you who don't know what we're talking about:

MS has discontinued Microsoft Money. You can download the free Sunset edition at the website. It works great, but you cannot use online services such as banking or paying bills.

Re-install the Application.

There is no need at this time to re-install the application. It works just fine.
The only instance of the ?????????? was in that license agreement dialog box.
I've haven't seen any of them since. I just wondered why it may have happened
in Win 8 CP and not Vista or Win 7. I installed with the same executable in all
of those Operating System. Go figure??????????????????????? :)

Thanks

Jimbo45 is onto something. The (A) and (D) on the Accept and Don’t Accept buttons are dead giveaway that some Asian language is being used. It is common practice for such languages to use ASCII letters for shortcuts, so they work with a regular keyboard.

So for some reason the installer decided to use an Asian language. Most likely it asked you what language to use and you chose Japanese or something.
