8.1 and iTunes Cannot sync iPod Touch (3rd gen.)

Anybody out there know of a "fix" for iTunes and Windows 8.1? Can't sync my iPod Touch (3rd gen.) at all, and now iTunes simply shuts down even after double-clicking on the icon on my desktop (can't access my Library).
PC is an HP, less than two years old; always worked before (likely the upgrade to .1 is the cause of all this!).

I have the iPod classic (80gig, circa 2009) and it's syncing fine with the latest version of iTunes (11.4.0.18). This is under Windows 8.1 with all the updates. Point being I don't think it's a compatibility issue.

If possible you can try resetting the iPod from within the iPod itself by going to Settings, and then clicking Reset Settings, and see if that works.
