Several programs suddenly won't launch or stops working

Hi,

All of a sudden many of my programs either won't launch or stops working right after launch.
I have googled for a long time on this matter, but I'm no wiser.
I have no "reset" point that can fix this, and I have tried "sfc /scannow" (without having a clue what it does). After the sfc /scannow, the command prompt message said I had some corrupt files, and not all of them could be fixed automatically.

Does anyone know what can cause several programs to stop working all of a sudden, and what can possibly fix it?
(Without re-installing Win 8 of course)

Thanks,

Carl

My Computer

System One

  • OS
    Win 8.1
In the elevated command prompt type
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then run the sfc /scannow again and reboot when finished

The sfc command repairs corrupt system files and the dism command repairs windows components.

Thanks Nuccii,

Did as you sugested. After the sfc /scannow, all corrupt files were fixed.
One of my most used softwares works fine again, yet others still don't launch.

I'm happy to perform other actions that may help other programs to run also:)

Good to hear that.
The other apps that won't launch, are the Window Store Apps or 3rd party apps?

Uninstall one of them and reinstall, see if that program is OK.

Well, maybe you can anyway:

I happen to be in the situation where I can't reinstall Win 8 on my ssd (or other drives actually).
I can't enter Win 8 (it's broken), and the install CD or bootable usb doesn't work.
My ssd contains a C:\ with os, and is write protected.
The only option I can see, is to enter cmd and format my ssd from there, and finally reinstall Win 8.
The cmd command "attributes disk clear readonly" doesn't do the trick.

Do you know another cmd command that possibly will format my write protected ssd?
Or, do you have any other thoughts on how to reinstall the os?
