Hello everyone, I am having a strange issue with my Windows 8.1 where every time I click on an app aside from store (games, project spark, Despicable Me etc) it comes up for 3-5 seconds before minimizing with the icons on the desktop. I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit Professional, an Nvidia Geforce GT545 with 3GB VRAM, 16GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Core I7 3.2GHZ quad core processor and Intel HD Integrated Audio.

will check that out, thanks. One thing I did notice though is that the games icon is missing (just a green background, no controller image) and it is ONLY the metro games that crash. Just tried downloading a non-game app and it works fine as do all non-metro games. Any idea which issue from the link could cause such an issue to help narrow down the cause?

I'd start at step 1, and work your way down testing after each one to see if it helped or not.

will do, just got another update, found out that it is just that one account when it is converted, is there any way to install them on one account and play them on another? I.E. I install them on mine (when converted) and play them on my other one so I do not lose all my documents and other settings?

Modern apps are owned by that specific Microsoft account. Another account would have to install the modern app instead, and can't run an app installed for another account.

darn, I noticed when I ran the tool in step 1 it said the following errors: Service Registration is missing or corrupt (not fixed), Windows Store Cache may be damaged (not fixed although I told it to reset the store) and Windows store configuration may be damaged (detected). Is there any way to fix these since the tool either can not, does not or will not fix them?

EDIT: also, the sfc command found no errors.

Is this issue in a local account or a Microsoft account on your PC?

If local, then you'll need to sign in to a Microsoft account to use any apps that use a Microsoft service.

using a microsoft account, any metro apps to do with games (the games app itself as well) show the loading screen for a few seconds then close, I also noticed that the tile is there for games but the controller icon is missing. This is only in my main account, if I disconnect the microsoft account and re-add it to my brothers THEN the games work fine, just in my account they do not which is why I was asking if it is possible to use the games on the same Microsoft account, just replacing a different normal account to save me re-downloading them.

Let's see if the listed items in the tutorial above may be able to hopefully help first before trying more drastic measures.

The Games app uses the same Microsoft that you are signed into Windows with.

I faced the exact problem here. and I solved it by:

1- Boot to Windows Recovery Environment (RE), reach to command prompt.
2- Get Windows 8.1 drive letter by running:
Code:
diskpart
lis vol
exit
3- Suppose the drive letter was E:
Code:
icacls E:\* /T /C /Q /RESET
4- Reboot to Windows 8.1 again and also form an elevated command prompt:
Code:
icacls "C:\Program Files" /grant "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES":(OI)(CI)(RX) /C /Q
icacls C:\Windows /grant "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES":(OI)(CI)(RX) /C /Q
icacls C:\users /grant "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES":(OI)(CI)(F) /C /Q
Step 4 is automated based on this article.
