A simple graphics app/program for Windows 8?

Does anyone know of a simple graphics app/program for Windows 8. They have something for photos so I'm thinking maybe there's something for graphics. I'm looking for something that will let beginners generate a gradient line, where they can define a beginning, middle, and end colors and output a png or jpg.

What would it be used for ?

You can use them in HTML/CSS to create surfaces that appear curved. The gradient at the left below, for example, has a lighter blue on the top than on the bottom and when this is repeated in the X direction inside the button box it gives the button a concave appearance.



I've created a site builder for non-technical users (zackel.com) that will do the repeat automatically by just dropping the line in the box with the Shift key held down and now I want to point my customers to an easy way to create these gradients.

I was pointing out you uploaded a bad image.

Ah! After I posted I went back and edited, trying to kill an extra attachment, but I killed the main one and then I had to add it back, so for a short time you might have seen that error. But it should be ok now. Do you see the vertical line now and the concave button?

Paint.net look like it will do the job but I found downloading and installing it way beyond my "non-technical" users, especially with all the trick "downloadunzip.com" links that look like they'll download paint.net, but don't. On Windows 7, it download and installed the .NET platform (4.2 I think) but when I tried to run the installed program it complained:


I can't have my users fighting this kind of thing.

Don't know if Irfan View would work for you or not. You'd need to download both Irfan View and the plugins. There are additional filters that can be downloaded.

Net framework is part of Windows Features and lots of third party applications use to develop their software. To add the feature to Windows:
Win+X->Programs anf Features->Turn Windows Features on or off then put a check mark on Net Framework 4, click OK

Odos270: That's a great idea to look at Irfanview plugins. I didn't know it had any. It looks like there's something you can do there with gradients if you have "Harry's filters" - Gradients made with Irfan View and Harry's filters., I'll look into it.
