Can Skype or Office 2013 send faxes?

So I have a pdf that needs to be faxed to a certain fax number.

Is there something in W8, Skype, Office 2013, that can do it? Or maybe a good app that can be installed?

Office can send a document as a FAX by printing to the FAX device. You need to have the FAX machine configured and then it will show up as one of your selectable printers.

If you don't have FAX hardware available, you can use a FAX service. I personally like and use a service called PamFAX. It can be integrated into Office so that docs can be sent via PamFAX from within office. I especially like PamFAX since it doesn't require a monthly subscription. You buy $x amount of credit that does not expire. I bought $10 of credits 5 years ago and still have about $7 of that left. Faxes are charged at about $0.13 a page.

Using PamFAX I can send faxes from my PC, laptop, netbook, tablet, phone, etc... as long as I have an internet connection.

For receiving FAXes, I have a free eFAX number.

No I don't have hardware. I was talking about Skype which uses no hardware. Just the internet.

I'm not sure why that software charges money. I was going to use this free site if Skype/Office/Windows doesn't have anything that works.

There are very good reasons why they charge for their FAX service. Many FAX services charge $10/month or more.

You'll notice that the "Free" service you linked to puts an ad on the cover page. To send a FAX with no ad costs $1.99. If you're OK with that then go for it. It also doesn't integrate into Office or anything like that.

I don't care about stupid ads if it's free.

Anyway, I found an app for Chrome called Hello Fax. It seems to be way better than those terrible fax sites. It actually had an interface where you can sign whatever your faxing. Even though I already edited the PDF with my signature using the Reader app in W8.

I tried sending the fax so hopefully it works right.

That HelloFax looks like a good deal (at least for the 1st 6 months, then subscription required).

Ya. I just needed to fax something. There might be an app or something in the Windows Store for W8 on my Surface. I'll look into it eventually.

Loads of "El cheapo" type printers have FAX built in -- such as a load of cheap HP deskjets -- simply load up the software and send a fax. Some can even do it in "Stand alone mode - where you don't need a modem ("Wot's that !!" ?? people will say) and a phone line to use. All works through the internet.
