Seems that many times, when I start Macrium there will be an update. But, I appreciate all the fixes and enhancements.

I have to back off of my statement. I installed the 5.3.7086 update on both Win 7 64 bit and Win 8.1.1. 64 bit (dual boot system). I'm getting the exact same errors on both systems when I try to create a Win PE rescue media (Disc). The CD/DVD burner I'm using is not the issue as it burns OK with Nero and I didn't have any problems creating the Win PE rescue media until this last update version.

When I first start the procedure to create the rescue media I get an I/O error:
Macrium Error.PNG

I then continue on and get another error about the WIN PE needing update and do that (I think).
Update Notice.PNG

I then do the CD burn but get another I/O error.

I've posted the problem on the Macrium Forum.

2nd edit: Things have went to H..l. The response I got from Macrium was a typical tech support "consumer" response. "Try a different CD". The first error is coming up before the program even knows what media I'm going to use. And as I posted on their forum this problem only surfaced with the last update.

Update on my Macrium 5.3.7086 problem. I have opened a ticket with Macrium support.

However, I uninstalled Macrium including logs, etc (see screenshot), rebooted the PC and then did a new install. I was able to create the WinPE5.0 disc but I still got the I/O error after it mounted the WinPE. This was on both Win 7 64bit and Win 8.1.1. 64 bit.

I haven't tried a drive backup or restore, yet.

I got the discs made, just a problem with the new version of Macrium.

My backup system, which also has Win 8.1.1 64 bit, but different hardware, did the exact same thing. Uninstall/Reinstall "fixed" it and I was able to create the WinPE5.0 disc. Before I updated the other system, I tried it with the existing version, 5.2.6526 and there were no problems creating a WinPE 5.0 rescue media. After upgrading it had the exact same problem as my main system.

I'm working with Macrium tech support on the problem.

Why didn't you use usb ?
I can backup my computer with a 32 GB usb.
The image for all my local drives is only 21 GBs.

Disc Backup wasn't (isn't) an issue.

The issue was creating the rescue media, but writing to the rescue media was not the issue. The errors occurred before it wrote to media. I tried a USB flash drive to see and got the same errors before it got to the point of creating the rescue media.

Since it does not happen to any body including myself and I would not think that they put out something broken. So your problem is one isolated case.
You've tried with both CD and USB then that rules out the hardware problem.

I suggest that you re-download both Macrium and WAIK package to the desktop. Uninstall completely and also delete the folders:
C:\Programs Files\Macrium
C:\ProgramData\Macrium
Then run CCleaner. Next, reinstall Macrium and try to create the rescue disk, at one point Macrium will ask about the WAIK not installed in your PC then point it to the zip file downloaded so Macrium will use it to update the WAIK package.

The screen shot of the Macrium Download Agent is shown below:

I uninstalled Macrium and everything that was listed to uninstall (see screenshot). Rebooted the PC and then did a fresh install. I created the WinPE 5.0 rescue media, which included downloading the WinPE 5.0, and then created the rescue media.

I previously noted, that the backup system had 5.2.6526 version and I made the WinPE 5.0 rescue media with NO errors. I then did the upgrade to 5.3.7086, rebooted the PC and then tried the WinPE 5.0 rescue media and got the exact same errors as I got with my other PC.

Uninstall screenshot:

Macrium Uninstall.PNG

I could agree on a problem with one system, but two separate systems, with different hardware, did the EXACT same thing with this new version. The only common thing is both have Win 8.1.1 Pro 64 bit with all updates. However, the dual boot system also has the same identical problem in Windows 7 64 bit. The Dual Boot system has SSD's, the backup system has conventional hard drives, and that eliminates a drive issue since it did it with both SSD's and conventional hard drives.

As previously noted (a couple of times), I have successfully created new WinPE 5.0 rescue media on the dual boot system with Win 7 and Win 8.1.1 and the backup system with Win 8.1.1.

Just for the record my primary system is listed in my system specs, which is a Gigabyte GAZ77X UD5H motherboard, i7 3770 CPU and 16 GB Ram. The second system has an ASUS Z77 motherboard, i5 3550 CPU and 8 GB RAM.

OK, Just try to sort out what's going on here. Have you installed any new software recently that could have caused the conflict ?

No. Again, as I noted the one system had an older version. I made a WinPE 5.0 rescue media with NO problems first. Then installed the new version and got the exact same problem I have with my primary dual boot system.

Sounds like a bug. Seems they have a lot of those, new version every 5 mins with a whole list of fixes.

Can't say I noticed most of them, and at least they keep trying to fix them.

It does seem to have the occasional but persistent issue setting the drive letter correctly. I have had it a few times and there have been reports elsewhere recently. Think I saw one today or maybe yesterday either here or on SF.

Do any of you have Emsisoft Anti-Malware installed? There seems to be a problem with it and Macrium Reflect Version 5.3.7086 from what I've read in other forums.

I have the Windows Defender in Win 8.1.1 and Microsoft Security Essentials in Win 7.

Here's a clue to potential problem with the WinPE creation. There was a change in the creation app.

From the release notes:
What's new? 5.3.7086:

  • Imaging in Windows PE now will skip bad sectors.
Bad sectors will now be automatically skipped when creating disk images in the Windows PE rescue environment. The image will complete without failure.

EDIT/Added: I notice in the release notes the WinPE creation was "fixed" for Windows XP. Having worked as a Programmer (at NASA) I know that fixing something at one spot can cause problems elsewhere.
