How to Start Photo Gallery Import Automatically?

I'm trying to set up a simple method of photo import for my father using the Photo Gallery import feature.

Normally you would select Photo Gallery as the import option under Autoplay Options under Control Panel. However, there is no option to select Photo Gallery photo import.

Is there a fix to enable Photo Gallery file import to start automatically when the camera is connected?

Hi Steve, if you've connected a device and the drivers were installed properly, you should see the device(s) listed at the bottom of 'AutoPlay' then you can choose options from there.

Photo Gallery doesn't appear as an AutoPlay option for the connected Canon camera - that's the problem. I do see options for Photos, ACDSee and Picasa but not Photo Gallery which has a simple interface for importing photos.

I want to use Photo Gallery - not Photo Viewer. Photo Viewer is very inflexible in the section of folders photos are transferred to.

I'm trying to set up a simple means for automatically importing photos for my father who's 88. Surprisingly, this does not seem to be possible with Photo Gallery unless someone knows of a registry fix or similar cure.

My requirements are:

1. Plug in camera or connect via WiFi
2. Import wizard starts automatically and invites you which folder to copy the photos and movies to
3. An image viewing program opens to view the imported photos.

This seemingly common and simple process seems incredibly difficult to implement in Windows 8!

Enlightenment:
Seems auto import in Windows 8.1 utilizes the Windows Photos App, (part of the suspiciously tethered 'FileManager' system), but you still have to confirm the import then saves to your predetermined folder and viewable with your default viewer.

I discovered Picasa 3 has the type of import wizard I need. I set the AutoPlay option for the camera to "Copy pictures to your computer (Picasa 3)" but that does noting when the camera is turned. I tried reinstalling Picasa but no luck. So neither Photo Gallery nor Picasa will start automatically to import when a camera is connected! Photo Gallery does not even appear as an AutoPlay option. Picasa does appear as an AutoPlay option but fails to start.

Has anyone managed to configure Picasa to import photos automatically when a camera is connected?

I failed to get Picassa to even work.
I think 8.1 is the problem.

I still haven't found a simple solution for automatically importing photos from a camera to a selected folder for my father who's 89. Surprisingly, this does not seem to be possible with any common utility unless someone knows of a registry fix or similar cure.

2. Import wizard starts automatically, displays the photos on the camera and invites you to select which photos to copy and which folder to copy the photos and movies to

All attempts to date have failed as discussed in the above thread. Does someone feel like writing a very useful app for the Windows store?
