Solved Windows 8 Metro Apps Auto Startup? Need to disable.

Hello, i'm running Windows 8 Home Premium.
I'd like to increase my startup speeds, I already disabled as much as I can in Task Manager, msconfig, etc.
In the Task Scheduler, it shows Metro Apps are taking CPU time at startup though. After much searching on the topic, I find very little about how to disable the Metro Apps from starting up. The main one I want to disable is "Mail, Calendar, People, and Messaging". I do not want to uninstall them, I just do not want them to do anything until I open them. It takes over 2 minutes of CPU time at startup for that one Metro App to fully load, and most of the time I never use it.

I have tried going into the Permissions of the App, and I disabled all of its Permissions to run in background of lock screen and everything. Still, it loads in Task Manager and takes CPU time.

Is there any way to fix this?

Welcome to Windows EightForums, Windows8Home.

There’s no way to eliminate the startup of these without tampering with the system too much. I find 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party programs aren’t the answer otherwise we don’t get the real benefits of the system. I don’t know what your system specs are, but in the end you get personal information far quicker than with previous OSs. http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/16379-real-quality-boot-time-8-verses-7-a.html

You could try:
1. Sign out of each app,
2. Right click the pertaining entry in Task Manager, choose 'Go to Details', right click that entry and choose 'End Process Tree'.

Is there maybe a registry tweak or something I could use?
My system specs: Intel Core i3-2130 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
6 GB Memory (RAM)
64 Bit OS


My Windows 7 Starter Netbook starts up three times as fast as this computer, neither have any Startup programs,the only thing I can think of for why Windows 8 starts up so slow is the tiles. Really need to fix this.

I tried Signing out of the mail, but it would be too difficult as its tied to my Microsoft Account. Also, I would be unable to End the Process Tree because the Task Manager does not show the Apps as running processes. It shows them under "App History"

Windows 8.x flies on this old Acer. If your machine is booting slow with your specs compared to mine then something else is seriously wrong. Even the h8ers will testify that it boots quicker.

I'm on my phone presently, so I'll comment more when I get to my tower. In the mean time > Are all of your drivers up to date?

How do I check if my drivers are up to date? I have never updated them. "Live Updater" auto searches for new updates every week, but no updates have ever came out. Should I go through the Device Manager and check each one, or try a software?

I'll try the device manager right now, probably no updates. Never has it reported any updates on any of my computer, but gonna go try it.

Okay, just checked. The device manager reports no driver updates. I keep up to date with Windows Updates also.

In the past I did have a problem with Windows Restart, I fixed it by doing a SFC /SCANNOW command, followed by a DISM Restore Heath command which fixed it all.

Oh, I just realized what you meant by the Hilighted Driver button. I installed it and did a scan, 14 out of date drivers. Tell me if I should update any of them:

Hi there. I take it you ran scannow and DISM? If so, what did it say after the scans?

Yes, update all drivers, but one at a time running the system for an hour or so to make sure that they work. Just because they're new doesn't mean that they work correctly. I would, but use your discretion on Bluetooth.

Do you have updates for other products check box checked in Windows Update settings?

I never mentioned any highlighted driver button?

Oh, for some reason when you say the word "driver" the forum must auto highlight it. It did it to me yesterday but not now for some reason. Anyways, if I clicked on the highlighted button it took me to the Uniblue Driver Scanner. I scanned my drivers with Uniblue Driver Scanner. The issue is in order to update them I have to buy the software. Do you know of any free software I can use to update my drivers?

I'll check Windows Update now.

Sfc said no integrity violations, and DISM said no component store corruption.

Windows Update says there is only 1 optional update.

Unfortunately I don't know of any free software, but some sites will offer a free scan to make a list to save to work from then you can search manufacturers' sites for them. It's a lengthy process, but free. Time vs money thing.

How long does it take for your machine to boot BTW?

Well, I can pretty much end this thread now. My machine has been booting faster recently, not sure why.
I'll try to update the drivers later, but it takes only 1 minute now to boot up.
I am unsure why it was booting so slow earlier. But it seems now it is fixed.
