Hell: a windows operating system, namely Windows 8, in which you cannot force quit programs but must restart the PC to stop a program. Often, this results in a user retsrating his garbage PC over 5 times a day.

Hello Ander, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Are you not able to open Task Manager to End task the program's process?

I am able to but it won't stop the program. And I download software that is like an advanced task manager but that won't work either. It just seems that certain software hang when you try to open them and they cannot be quit without reboot even if all are in admin mode.

Sometimes it may take a moment for it to end task, and sometimes you may need to end task it twice.

What program is this happening with? Is there a newer version of the program available that's more compatible with Windows 8?

yeah, I think it is probably a security program stopping it or I did something wrong. Sorry for the histrionics.

No worries. :)

If you like as a test, temporarily disable or uninstall the security software to see if the programs install properly afterwards.

So I have had problems ever since I got Windows 8. Programs freeze, hang, don't work and I cannot quit them without holding down the power button and restarting my PC.

The programs are openvpn, ccleaner, privazer, airvpn.

I turned off uac I ran as admin, and I run into the same problems again and again.

What am I doing wrong or is windows 8 really as bad as everyone says it is?

Hello, ander35. Welcome to Windows EightForums.

Did you temporarily disable or uninstall the security software to see if the programs install properly as Brink suggested?

BTW, what are you running for AV? Also, please post or fill out your system specs so as to help you better. Thanks.

I uninstalled Online armor and now Ccleaner and Privazer work. I am not positive that is what caused it though.

I am now only using Bitdefender and windows firewall and sandboxie.

I have windows 8 64.

I disabled UAC.

Mullvad now works also. Must have been disabling UAC and getting rid of the HIPS firewall.

windows 8

I guess now my question is , is there a way to force quit programs that are hanging in the future? besides task manager, that is.

Sounds like it may have been the cause. If you like, you could uninstall CCleaner, install the Online Armor again, then see if you are able to install CCleaner again. If not, then Online Armor was the cause of blocking it.

Other than using "End task" in Task Manager, the only other way would be to restart the computer. Using Task Manager would be easier on the computer if successful.
