I'm planning on creating in addition to a CD a USB flash restore drive. The problem is that no where can I find how large of a flash drive do I need.
I'd appreciate your insight.

I believe, you need at least 6GB. I just created one for my Surface Pro 2, and it was just over 5.5GB. As cheap as USB media is right now, go big.

The Macrium recovery program on a stick is exactly 152MB. You can download the latest .iso from my Skydrive.

But if you meant how big an image would be, that is another story. It is appr. 65% of the data you image. The partition size is irrelevant.

I found that I had to use FAT32 (*) when creating the boot USB (32GB) but as David points out, Macrium automatically splits the image file into 4GB chunks when saving to the same drive - 4GB file limit on FAT32 format.

* Mine is a UEFI system so reason is probably this.
