It doesn't show in Programs and Features as speedupmypc nor uniblue. No idea where it came from. Startup menu shows nothing either, but when I boot up, it automatically starts running and I have to stop it. How do I make it go away?
Thanks, Bill

This is on my wife's Windows 8.1 laptop.

Thank you for the link, but it is of no help. SpeedUpMyPC nor Uniblue show in in Programs and Features, Start menu, nor Apps on the Start Menu, therefore there is no way to get to the app that I can find. Ideas????

Can you find the install folder in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)
if you can identify the instal folder you may be able to manually execute "uninstall.exe" Go to the bottom right corner and exit the program first

The only way I would be able to direct you would be to instal the program and I don't have a sandbox to test it sorry.

Searching for "Uninstall SpeedUpMyPC" in google suggests many issues with this program. I am at a loss how a company can get away with this behavior

Sounds like you may have a problem with PUP's (Potentially Unwanted Programs)

Likely others with more experience than I will provide a more direct path for removal but in the meantime:

You might try scanning with the newer version of Malwarebytes Malware Scanner/Remover. It is quite good at removing things such as this.

Selecting all PUPs | Malwarebytes Unpacked

Use a startup manager like https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner Find the specific app in menus, right click on it to open containing folder and once you stop it, delete the whole folder and restart to verify, if it is gone.

That program is usually downloaded by a user, in response to an ad on TV. It does not slither in by itself.

I've cautioned all my customers to NOT fall for that stuff, advertised on TV. (there are several permutations of the same program)
As a result, I've never seen it on any of my customer's PC's.

Good Luck!

Hi, Bill:

Since AntsPants solved your problem, you might want to go to the little "thumbs up" icon at the lower left of his post and click on it.

Also, you may want to go to the beginning of your thread and click on the green icon that says something like "solved". That way it shows there's a solution to the problem. What this does is tell those willing to help that your problem is solved and those who want to know how to solve the problem will gain knowledge.

Thanks.

I didn't knowingly download it, and it's a new computer. My guess is that it slipped through while I was downloading something else. These sites are tricky like that. But I've never had one slip in, and not show up in programs, start, or somewhere obvious like this one did.

Strange, Bill. I didn't see it when I posted, but I saw "solved" a second ago, so I looked again and don't see it now.

I'll look a little more carefully and let you know what I did wrong so no one else will do it.

OK, I know what happened now . . . When I'm notified via email that there's a post to a thread I'm following and I click on the link, I don't see "solved" in the email, nor in the post I'm taken to. So, I mistakenly thought you hadn't marked it solved. Sigh . . . I still have a lot to learn about these forums.
