Confusion over 3 different Video Apps

Windows 8 appears to have multiple video apps.
  • Video Metro App.
  • Windows Media Center
  • Windows Media Player
I am a bit confused over the advantage of each. Actually, I find it difficult to use the Video Metro App, it seems gear toward buying movie rather than playing something on the drive or the DVD player. Another annoying thing is that I can't figure out how to toggle off the overlay that it displays on of the screen.

I did no testing and never claimed compatibility with the developer priview.
For the Consumer Preview, I have released a Windows 8 Codec pack. - fully tested, and functional.

The Windows 7 codec pack is also compatible if you find that the Win8codecs are to stipped down for your needs. The Win7 pack has alot more functionality @ 27MB where-as the Win8 pack is only 15MB. Both packs provide the Extra functionality described in THIS POST
