Solved Windows 8.1 live tile apps not working..!

I'm personally going to try to make this simple, and yet cover all of my problems in a small thread.

I updated windows 8.1 pro with wmc from store.

I had NO problems, received no error messages, had no dc's, the power didn't shut off, the download didn't stop .. literally nothing went wrong. After update everything worked fine. All the apps are downloaded and were working fine.

But,

After 2/3 months since updated, I suddenly noticed that every live tile / folder / app / game / setting etc. which were working fine, now not working.
When I clicked on any tile, nothing happened. It just went to a blank green screen because my background color is green. It appears on the left upper corner as opened but doesn't run. When I click, I am send back to Start Screen or Desktop. Even Store and Windows Setting stopped working. So, naturally i started checking the web for answers, but couldn't find a solution to the exact problem i was having. I saw countless posts of people saying "Just uninstall / re-install the apps" but at first, I couldn't get my App store app to run. Again, it was just blank after several minutes of waiting. I was able to download it after using the search bar menu on the right side of my computer, and was able to start installing some apps.

NEXT PROBLEM:

So i thought that everything was going to be ok, but then I ran into another problem where some of the apps wouldn't install, and I received an error message with the code/number of 0x80070002. I searched online but had no luck finding anyone that had this problem too.

So, at this point, only a few of my apps are working due to the simple fact that I was able to re-install them, but the others I can't re-install because of this error message.

FIRST SOLUTION:

I found a thread online that someone had created with a simple fix to about 2-3 errors on the tiles. This is a simple powershell script to re-register some apps so that they can run again. This worked to fix my app store app and setting, but only that apps. The app update is still not working.

I have another windows live ID, and when I log in with that Id, all my apps works normally! I am out of sorts now. Can any one help me? Plzz

Thanks in advance.

Hello Riaz,

You might see if going through the listed troubleshooting steps in the tutorial below may be able to help. :)

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/21051-apps-tiles-not-working-responding-fix-windows-8-a.html

I tried most of them listed except the last one but with no positive result. The problem has now occurred to my other Id too! It was running fine for a couple of months but suddenly store, setting, and other apps stopped working. I could restore Store and Setting but not the others. Moreover, though the store is running now, but no apps can be installed as it shows error code 0x80070002.

I wonder why no one could find any solution for it till now. I have found a lot of people facing with the same problem!

Riaz,

Since this just started recently, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before this started to undo and hopefully fix this.

If that fails or you do not have a restore point available, then you could switch your broken Microsoft account to be a local account, create a new administrator Microsoft account on the PC with the same email address, sign in to the new account, and copy any files (ex: music, documents, etc...) from the old account to the new one. This would hopefully have the new account work properly so you can use it instead of the old one.

Fixed the problem by creating a new account.

This would hopefully have the new account work properly so you can use it instead of the old one.

Thanks Brink. I have already followed the second method n created a new account, transferred all important files, deleted the old account n made it a Microsoft account with the old Id. Now everything working fine. Just worried how long it will continue!

Hope so. Do u recommend third party registry cleaning software like Registry Clean Pro? ? Do they work or harm more? I have a doubt (not sure though) that registry cleaning might caused my problem. Plz suggest. Thanks

I would recommend to never use registry cleaning programs or features. They are usually over aggressive causing harm, and some are just pure snake oil sold as a cure all for everything.

Avoid them like the plague. :)

This is what happened to our last user who used a registry cleaning program..

I ran the Windows App Store Repair tool and it suggested that I allow windows to update my device drivers (shudder) and so I enabled this and pointed the WUS to the Microsoft Site (away from my corporate repository) and lo and behold Windows offered an update for the Intel Graphics chip and about 30 other 'optional' updates. Upon applying these I am now able to use the 'modern' apps.

OPINION TO FOLLOW:
I am forced to ask, if these updates are optional yet vital to keep that part of my OS working, what am I to think MS is telling me here? I think they are trying to get away from the Modern START menu as fast as they can.... And I could not be happier. I have to say that I love Windows 8 and 8.1 and 8.1.1 but I RARELY use the modern interface - EVER. It is not intuitive and its settings are horrible and half the time the apps don't respond and this thing has been in release for how long? I mean honestly, lets call METRO, the Modern UI, the Modern Start Menu, whatever, what it is - a fail - and move forward to better... Though Windows 10 previews leave me feeling like someone is putting lipstick on the PIG that was the Metro Modern Start Menu, more than it feels like a new OS.
