    Rip and Convert

I have an extensive video library which I am trying to put onto my computer. I am running windows 8. I have tried lots of programs and nearly all of them fail to produce good quality on the computer. All of them seem to break up and pixelate. I can remove some of the "VOB" files to the computer from the disc but these will not play even on VLC. There are some I want to convert to play on the Galaxy Tab2 but cannot find anything to help me with both problems. I know windows 8 does not have a program to play DVD but I have put VLC in and that plays them. So can anyone please help me with my two problems.
    Thanks in anticipation

I would take a look at MakeMKV. The beta is free. That has the drawback that each time the beta is updated you have to get another key, and you cannot back off to older versions. With the paid license key you can.

MakeMKV is convenient for set top box or playing off a HD. When it rips DVDs it makes an .mkv file for each title. This works pretty well for "episodic" DVDs such as TV series. It can also act as a server to set top boxes such as WD HDTV Live etc..

You can play the .mkv files with vlc or SPlayer Portable or Media Player Classic etc..
MakeMKV - Make MKV from Blu-ray and DVD

Note I already purchased MakeMKV a couple of years ago. I don't get any brownie points for recommending it.

Edit: the other salient point.. it just remuxes to .mkv format. It does no conversion. So it's very fast. It pretty much puts out the .mkv files as fast as it can rip the discs.

Well, you can use a DVd ripper to rip and convert the DVD to .MKV or other foemats which are supported by your VLC player. That's veru easy. Here is a guide which is based on Samaung Galsxy S: DVD to Galaxy S.

Hi all, I have now tried two different programs. The first one called "Format Factory" which I used to convert the files straight from the disc itself so no ripping to do myself. It converts to a lot of things but I chose "MP4" and also "MKV" both of which play on the Samsung tab2. They are reduced in size also. Only one problem though, it keeps the sub-titles on, not that is any bother really.
Thanks for all your advice everyone.
