You need to be REALLY careful these days when downloading DECENT FREE software -- often the actual download link is really confusing and hard to find and even when choosing an EXCELLENT and well known FREE music tagging program (mp3tag) you can get MIS-DIRECTED to something called NCH STAMP ID3 tag editor which isn't as good and has reference to a PAID version (if not a home user). Mp3tag is an excellent product BTW so no problem in downloading it - but download the right piece of software.
I can understand why some people end up with all sorts of unwanted toolbars and apps on their machines these days -- just a note to everyone to do the following before clicking the download button
1) Ensure the download is the SOFTWARE YOU WANT.
2) look for and uncheck any "extra offers" or toolbars that you don't want.
3) if there are any "Free but you pay a subscription after 30 days unless cancelled" - either set a reminder in your calendar to CANCEL in good time or if you want the subscription (not usually worth it in most cases unless you are doing a legitimate trial e.g Photoshop) update your Bank records so you don't have a whole slew of subscriptions being taken out of your account.
The whole sneakerware / invasionware type of approach is in some ways more insidious than actual visible crime since a lot of people just won't bother to check for at least a few months -- so a nice little earner if you can get it.
So again -- always doubly or preferably TRIPLE check before pressing the download button.
