Solved frozen tiles

I've tried everything to be able to use my metro tiles. Googled dozens of times and tried everything. Does anybody have anything else I can try.

When you say "frozen tiles", what exactly do you mean?

Do your apps not open, no live tiles, etc.....?

I don't know what you have or haven't tried, but you might see if going through the troubleshooting steps below may help for now.

Installed Windows 8 about 6 months ago. About 2 weeks ago, the tiles wouldn't do anything when I click on them. Thanks for your help but I think I'll take it to a repair store because I thing my brother and I tried everything including the link you sent me. I can't even update to Windows 8.1 because the Store tile won`t open.

Are you able to refresh or reset Windows 8?

It's actually my brother's laptop. Between the two of us, we've googled and tried almost everything. He did a refresh but it asked for some discs that we burned for the original windows 7. The refresh says it's the wrong recovery discs or whatever it's called.
I appreciate the time and effort you have put forth. I'm thinking something is corrupt or we have problems in the registry which we won't touch. We deleted Norton, CCleaner and anything he might have installed around the time of problem.

What did you use to install Windows 8 with?

We both installed Windows 8 through the website. We have our product keys for that.

If you like, you could use the tutorial below to download a Windows 8 ISO from Microsoft using your retail Windows 8 product key.
Afterwards, you could create a bootable Windows 8 installation DVD/USB from the downloaded ISO file.

When ready, you could do a clean install with your upgrade Windows 8 using the DVD/USB.

If you wish to do this, be sure to back up anything that you do not want to lose to another location first. A clean install will format the hard drive.

Just an update. Took the laptop to the computer store. They had to reformat the computer. We tried but like I said, we only had recovery discs for Windows 7. And that didn't work. Everything works great. Thanks for your help.
