Anyone using Macrium on a Windows 8 Pro system?
My question is how to either change the boot sequence so that cd/dvd is before the hard drive.
The reason being to be able to boot from the Rescue dvd.
the only way I have found so far is to
get the charms
select settings, hold down the right shift key, and select restart
this brings up a window just before restart where you can choose cd/dvd rom
so far many calls to support at HP and now it has escalated higher but no solution so far.
I would any help to solve this.
thank you
Larry

Yes, I do use Macrium.

There are 2 ways to boot from DVD/USB with new MB which has the option to display the BOOT menu and you can select which device to boot from and this is a one time deal. You need to find out which KEY to press to get the boot menu when power up your PC from the manual.

The second is to go into the BIOS and change the BOOT order for which device to boot from first and this is permanent.

For example, for my MB:
<DEL> key will access my BIOS
<F11> key will access my BOOT Menu

topgundcp thank you for responding.
first off Legacy Boot Options is disabled.
bios is at defaults
<esc or F10> keys will get me to the bios
<F11> gets me to a language screen and then to Use a Device. I think this is for recovery
<F12> gets me to a Select Boot Choice and there are only two and they are IPv4 and IPv6 and they are on a controller and used for network.
I have turned off secure boot and then you can enable Legacy Boot Options
there are more choices however I have tried to highlight usb/cd and also cd/dvd rom in the boot and move them above and below the hard drive and windows boot options and it changes nothing in the secuence. I know the dvd
that I have the rescue file on is bootable as I have had it on the screen. however that is the one where thru charms
and power and restart and then choosing cd/dvd rom works but for one time only.

I don't know who's the BIOS provider for your MB. AMI or Phoenix ???
However, In the BIOS there are 2 places you need to set.
  1. Boot Priority
  2. Boot Order.

Boot Priority: tell the system which device to look for first eg. DVD/CD, HD, USB etc...
For example, if you have more than one HD's in your PC then Boot Order will tell the system which HD to boot from.

the motherboard and bios is from ackee and
just reading the Secure Boot feature that HP uses in all windows 8 machines and that is blocking the cd/dvd drive.
it talks about disabling the feature and enabling legacy in order to boot from a dvd but also advises changing back to
protect the system from malware and other breaking in.
I found all of this for my machine when looking for the function key layout.
so I guess the bottom line is you can get there but it is not an easy thing to do.
