Solved Default Program for Photography

In setting up the default program of Photo Gallery for my photographs, there are a ton of .xxx that I don't recognize that open in Photos.

Since I don't know what they are, I've left them alone for now; however, I still wonder about them.

Some of them are .ari, .cap, .dcf, .dcs, and the list stops at 21 extensions I don't recognize.

Should I leave these to the Photos app (which I don't like at all) or should I change them all to Photo Gallery, which I like very much.

Of course, I have photo apps I will use when editing any pics, but when I just want to view them, I'd like them to all open in the same app.

All help will be appreciated.

It's really a matter of personal choice, but you could use Default Programs to select to make Windows Photo Viewer the default program with all of it's associations in one swoop instead of each file type one by one.

Uh oh! I've hit a snag, I think.

The photography part went without a hitch, but . . .

I use both Microsoft Office 2010 and Corel Word Perfect Office X6, neither of which show up in my listing of apps. I looked in the "Set your default program:" listing and MSWord apps are set up correctly as are the Corel WordPerfect files.

Also, I got lost when I tried to follow Option Two in your instructions. How do I open "PC Settings"? I searched (Windows+F) and didn't come up with anything. I tried the gear cog at the bottom of the charms bar, but nothing there either.

Office should set itself has the default program by default.

The PC settings option is only available in Windows 8.1. It's not available in your Windows 8.

Thank you, Shawn. Although I checked to be sure that Corel WordPerfect hadn't highjacked my Office links, I didn't think of that.

OK, I'll wait until October 18 with the rest of the lemmings. I surely hope it's worth it.

BTW, I must say a great big "Thank You" to you and all the other gurus here so willing to help us Windows 8 novices. Because that's exactly what I feel like. I didn't have this much trouble adjusting to Windows 3.0!
