Hi Eight Forums.

Yesterday I installed genuine Windows 8.1 Pro.
SystemSpec2.png
After installing the OS, all apps worked good. Music app, Maps app, and Skype app.
After using OS for a day, installing some stuff on the Windows which supports windows 8, Something strange happen. Suddenly All my apps marked with "X" on it, repairs didn't work, actually it didn't even start trying repair the apps.
So I've re-installed all my apps, Everything worked beside Music app,Skype app, Maps app, they didn't work. Music app told me that it needs an update when there is no update available (so its broken and i can't use it). Skype app just can't sign in and keeps loading screen then tells me too try again. Maps app just crashes on the app-start screen and it doesn't let me know why it's doing it.

* I've installed Advanced System Care 7 Beta 2 and made deep scan + repair, after broken apps i used the backup to restore the files he erased i though maybe its the ASC which cause the problem. but the apps are still broken.
(No antiviruses/Dangerous software's were installed on my PC besides "ASC" that might cause the problem by the fix to the registry.)

* I switched that day from Microsoft Account to Local Account.
(the reason I've done that is cause i hate the password on windows start-up).

I think that if i could re-install apps without windows already knows everything about them it could rebuild the app cache and maybe fix the problem. but as far as i know its impossible in windows 8 to completely remove apps from Windows Store.

So what can i do to fix the apps? (I tried to use any app diagnostic tool and it didn't work).

Sorry for my bad English,
Thanks for any help,
Max.

Hello Max, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You might see if going through each troubleshooting step in the tutorial below may be able to help.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/21051-apps-tiles-not-working-responding-fix-windows-8-a.html

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Thanks Shawn for the welcome message.

I've walk-through the steps, and every step is correctly done and yet the apps are still broken,

Although, Step 20 "Refresh Windows 8" is not an option for me because I've already installed many software's to be used and I prefer not to make so quick fresh new windows.

Do you remember if this happened right after doing anything specific?

If not, then I'm afraid that a refresh may be the only option left since you say you already tried all the other options. :(

Yes, I left cleaning windows software run on the background then i left to school and when i came back the problem accorded.
(it cleans and defrages the registry too)
Advanced System Care 7 Beta 2 which suppose to support Windows 8.1, more then that I sincerely didn't do anything which can cause that problem.

If Windows refresh is the last option, how can i ensure that problem will be fixed after the refresh?
If I refresh windows, then install an app it will automatically rebuild the app?

You could try doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to see if it may help.

Doing a refresh would require that all non default apps (desktop and Store) be reinstalled afterwards to have them back.

No I don't have system restore point, your suggestion is to refresh the windows just because 3 apps doesn't work properly? :\

I notice you mention creating a new local account? Is it that account that has the problem, or the original one?

You might try creating another local account with a slightly different name to see if that works?

I had a similar problem with a corrupted Windows Store/ Metro Apps on my PC, and it only affected one account. I eventually fixed with System Restore but I see you've not got that option.

Basically I got system restore to the first seconds after windows installation. but it's more like making refresh doesn't it?

The problem accorded on Microsoft Account, Afterwards I re-installed all apps and then switched to Local Account.
Your suggestion is to make another Local Account? It will effect the metro apps?

If the problem had been on the local account, I would have suggested creating another local account, because the Metro apps are held separately for each account, and there's not much of a downside in creating a new local account.

However if as you say the problem is on the Microsoft Account, I don't know how to resolve it. :(

It's a shame all my leader-boards scores vs friends will be gone.. but maybe its a a solution?

I don't know if it would work or not - it might do. Do the Metro apps all work correctly on the local account?

I think if it was me I'd be trying the Refresh option as suggested earlier, because you did have some earlier problems which may not have been fully resolved by the Advanced System Care software. The downside is you'd need to install other software again.

For future reference, once you have a set of apps which are installed and everything is working correctly, you can create a Custom Recovery Image which means a future Refresh should put your apps back next time.

All apps in local account works beside Skype, Music and Maps.

I'm serenely not going to refresh windows because of 3 apps not working ... If there is no solution to the problem then i won't use those apps anymore till i decide to make new windows :\.

I wish Microsoft would make Update and give people option to remove apps from store (Microsoft Account) and completely uninstall them, Its not the first time i have problems with apps..

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the refresh advise.

I did refresh and now all my apps working again :)

Beside "Maps" which crashes and its probably because I'm using the Nvidia beta driver.. hes the only one which supports windows 8.1 right now.
