Hi,

I installed windows live messenger 2011 and when I try to login it says service unavailable.

Is it because its running on windows 8? I even tried all the compatibility modes and nothing seems to connect.

Thanks.

Works here on 32 bit. What malware application and firewall?

Is it a clean install of the OS or an upgrade?

Newest version of WLM?

I am still thinking it is the firewall. You might want to temp disable it.

Ok Solved the problem. So I had to remove my windows profile password and then login to msn and then add the password back to my windows account.

Go to Control Panel > User Accounts.
Manage Users Accounts > Advanced Tab
Manage Password.
Remove all of the passwords in the list.
Shut down MSN Massanger and start it back up.

Yes i followed the last one which was:

  1. Click Start, type user account in the Search programs and files box; press ENTER.
  2. Click on the "Manage User Account" link to access all Windows accounts on your computer. Log-in as an administrator user if prompted.
  3. Double-click on the user name (Windows profile) to remove their password protection
  4. Click on "Remove the password" link
  5. Windows 7 will display the Remove a password screen; for security reasons, Windows asks you to supply the current password (at least for administrator accounts), and click on the Remove Password button. After a few seconds, Windows 7 brings you back to that particular user's profile, confirming that the password has been successfully removed.
  6. Open Windows Live Messenger and verify if you can now sign in.

9. If you sign in successfully, you can now set a password for your Windows Profile by following these steps:

  1. Click Start and choose Control Panel
  2. Click User Accounts link
  3. In Make changes to your user account window, click Create a password for your account link
  4. After you enter your password, click Create password button to confirm your new password
