Hi guys, In my ignorance I downloaded 'Sparktrust PC Cleaner' without checking up on it. It was recommended by a well know download site, C.Net.
I uninstalled it (or so I thought), but on start up a windows box asks me if I want to update the software.
I click 'NO'.
How do I completely delete this software?
Some say boot in 'Safe' mode, but I don't seem to be able to find it in Windows 8.
Even pressing the F8 button on start up won't work.
I think this software may be malware, not too sure.
Can any of you guys help please?
Thanks.

Hello slobbadobba,

You could use an option in the tutorial below to remove or disable this from running at startup. I'd try Option One first to see if it's listed to be disabled since that would be the easiest way.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5180-startup-items-manage-windows-8-a.html

Afterwards, check in Programs and Features for any other listed installed item that may be for this program running at startup as well.

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

Hi Brink. After much gnashing of teeth I have managed to delete the rogue software. MY Kaspersky killed it off after a full scan.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
Pretty sure I'll be needing more help in the future.

Do yourself a favor and use "Revo Uninstaller" (my favorite) or some other program like that, they do not leave "tails" after them, files or registry leftovers.

Hi CountMike,

I see that you have recommended this product more than once so I will ask for your expert commentary on same. Now, most uninstallers that I have used in the past are required to be running during the installation phase of all programs so it can chart/document all entries made by the installer. Once known, the uninstall process is simplified. So, does this hold true for Revo as well? If so, am I correct in assuming it would provide no benefit for those programs I had installed before installing Revo or is this program somehow unique from other uninstallers? In my case, I have a ton of programs already installed and I would really like to know if this would work on them based on your knowledge and first-hand experience with this product. Thanks!

There are two versions of Revo, Free and Professional, I am using Pro but it is not needed normally. It does not matter when you install it, it will pick up whatever you have already installed but it has the option to install programs thru it too, which I use when installing drivers and programs that do not use registry. It also has "Hunter Mode" where you just mark a program and uninstall it from wherever it is installed. I like it because it also delete leftover files and registry entries that MS uninstaller mostly miss. There is also "Forced Uninstall" for more stubborn cases. Pro version has some more programs for cleaning and adjusting system.
So you can be reasonably sure that all the programs installed will show on it. To be honest, there were a few cases when uninstallation did not go as planed but by using Scan it found all the files and registry entries and cleaned them up anyway. Just so you do not have to chase it, you can find free version here:
Download Revo Uninstaller - MajorGeeks
You can try it and if you do not like it, it can even uninstall itself.

I have the paid version of Revo.
It works good.
New programs or pre Revo.
It has other features as well.

Hmm... Sounds like it does work a bit better than previous uninstallers that flat-out require a full monitoring of the installation. I may give it a try at sometime in the future. BTW, there's nothing like the voice of experience and you certainly sound like you have experience with Revo so thanks for that! Cheers!

Well, I tend to stick to whatever works best for me, I do try a lot of programs but keep and recommend only what i deem worthwhile. That is also the reason I keep uninstaller handy.
