Solved Cannot install a specific software

Hi

MY PC is W8 x64 with 8 gig RAM and a Quad core 2.3G I think Intel CPU,
I have downloaded (twice) an install file of Paintshop Pro X6 but I cannot install it, I get an error message that
a newly created folder cannot be accessed and that I need to log on as an Admin.

I am the only user and am the administrator..

The software was written for W8 64 bit compatibility and I know many people who have installed it without a problem so I cannot go to the provider and say the software is buggy.

I thought I may have a virus so I reverted to a Casper 8 Clone of my hard drive from two weeks ago, ran a full Defender, Malwarebytes, Superantspyware and ADWCleanr, these installed without a problem, but the Paintshop Pro X6 will still not install.

Any ideas of what I should do here.

Thanks

Daniel

Hell Daniel,

See if right clicking on the installation file, and clicking on "Run as administrator" will allow you to install it.

Hope this helps, :)

Hi

sorry, I should have said, I have tried both right clicking on the installation file and selecting "Run as administrator"
and selecting "Run as administrator" in the compatibility part of the properties.

In case it helps I have attached a pic of the error.

Regards

Daniel

Hi

Unfortunately it did not work, I followed the instructions using option 1. running "net user administrator /active:yes"
at the command prompt.

But I did not see an a C:\Users\Administrator folder so I completed the option three as I have W8 Pro, but the Administrator Properties box the Account is disabled box was already unchecked, I rebooted an got by usual logon screen.

I tried to install anyway but got the same error, what am I missing or doeing wrong .

Regards

Daniel

P.S. Something I forgot to mention was the "do you want to run this file" (from UAC) dialogue box came up,
and I understood that running the changed administrator routine stopped that.

You'll need to click on Yes for the UAC prompt to approve it. If you click on No, it will abort the installation.

The UAC prompt is for you to approve using elevated rights to install it.

Hi

what I meant was that it was an indicator that I was not logged in as Built in Admin, but I eventually
saw my mistake and logged into Built in Administrator.

I tried to install the file again, but it did not work, I got the same error box.

Is there something else I can do to fix this?

Regards

Daniel

The built-in "elevated" Administrator account is not the same as the normal "unelevated" administrator accounts.

Getting a UAC prompt is normal for "unelevated" administrator accounts.

When you are logged into an "unelevated" administrator accounts and something require elevation to run, you will get an UAC prompt to approve it.

Does the program install when you click on Yes for the UAC prompt?

Hi

Sorry if my replies were confusing.

I did click on yes and the program did not install, I got the same error box.

This also happened when I logged into "Built in Administrator".

Ah, ok. Sorry, just had to make sure. :)

See if taking ownership of and setting permissions to "Allow" your account "Full Control" of the Corel or Corel PaintShop Pro X6 folder and it's contents at the hidden location below may allow you to install it afterwards.

C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X6

Hi, the

what an ordeal this has been, and I really appreciate your patience and perseverance.

Using "take control" allowed me to carry on to the next folder created by the install program
but then I got the error again, changing the permissions and starting the install again gave me the error
but using "take control" on that folder allowed the install to complete fully.

Then I tried to install another program, and got the error again.

So I looked up "repair install" of W8 and found your post on repair install without losing data,
I did that and now everything is working well, no errors on install, I am guessing that the malware h
ad changed some W8 file.

Thanks again for your help

regards

Daniel

You're most welcome Daniel. I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted.

I would recommend to do a full scan of your system just to help make sure it's still clean.
