64 bit vs 32 bit

Hello

i am wanting to install some application that i had on my windoes XP 32 bit....but when i try to install them to windoews 8 64 bit,there pops out a message saying that the applications are not supported by the system .....Is there any way to make a 32 bit application to run on a 64 bit windows 8?

32bit applications work properly in 64bit Windows, unless the application has a requirement for a specific hardware driver to be included with it, or if it has 16bit components.

What application is not working?

i am trying to install a aoftware,which the company releasing it has made it clear that it is not designed to run on 64-bit Windows, such as Windows 7 or Windows XP....Anyway,in windows 7 there was a way to switch to XP MODE 32 BIT,which is not in wondows 8...was wondering if windows 8 had a similar option since it is more advanced version

Win 8 does have Hyper-V which is a virtual environment much like Virtual PC that was available for Win 7. However, Win 7 also included a fully licensed copy of XP to run as a VM within Virtual PC which Win 8 does not. If you have a spare copy of XP, you could create a VM running XP with Hyper-V or you could install VMWare Player or VirtualBox and do the same thing.

    Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
If the company is specifically telling you it won't run on a 64-bit OS, than it probably won't run, and possibly install.

Get DosBox for this if you are on x64 Windows 8.

...or older troublesome 32bit one with drivers.

Fixes all:
Install it in a XP 32bit VM on your Windows 8. (in this case the 16bit one will run here as well).
if you used XP in the past, install it with that key.

You have to download VirtualBox or VMware Player (one will be enough). Then install.
Create a new VM, select XP... It will resamble what you had as XP Mode in Win7 but it will be a bit different (other programs used).

Then you need XP from install CD or ISO, insert it in the drive... (see links for more details).

Before going to XP Mode (you'd probably need to go out and buy an extra XP Licence to use it legally for one thing) you might try the Compatibility Troubleshooter. (Windows Key + W, then type "Compatibility" and you'll get a result called "Run programs made for a previous version of windows")

You might be lucky...

And, as previous people have asked, what program is it?

Well about XP Mode:
I was trying to say XP Mode is not available in Win8, you need your own XP installation / new license to install.

I installed windows XP,throught Oracle virtual Bpx...The Problem is that the application i want to run is 16 bit,and it SAYS that Windows can't run 16 BIT,when i open them on Windows XP SP3 which i installed

So,if all the installation was only for 32 bit applications,than it is NULL,as 32 bit applications are already supported by windows 8


Any idea before i use MY RESTORE POINT,which i made before installing windows XP?

If your XP install is complete then it shouldn't have problems with this. Some DOS programs may need changed settings to be able to run.

I am starting to think that the problem is in the virtual Box,,,i might be wrong though...The XP runs normally,as if
it was its real original program,

Other comparable software would be VMware Player but the latest versions require 64bit OS.
The last version that runs on 32bit is 3.1.6 but I never tested that one on Win8.
