Short answer- you cant.

Long answer- Starter is only for win7. More importantly, Starter is legally usable only when it comes preinstalled on oem computers preinstalled with win7. So you're also breaching the eula.

I don't see why you couldn't just install one of the more expansive version but limit it to the applications you want. That would work just as well, no?

Because I only usually used Word and Excel, so I only need the starter version. Otherwise, I will need to purchase the full version of Office 2010. That's total waste of money.

Facts will not change because you don't believe me. Office Starter 2010 is NOT available for purchase, it only comes preinstalled. Where did you get the installation file from?

And quite frankly, I don't see how spending $100-$200 would hurt for an absolutely excellent Office suite full of great applications...

Well I have no need for the Professional edition! :p
Oh and for us it is extremely over-priced. $515 for the Home edition. I made the assumption that it was cheap for the OP based on his comparative local time (as there is no flag). ;)

Still, not being a student, where can you get MS Office 2010 for $100-$200?
What country - flag or not?

Yeah, it's not the Professional version, but our OP only wanted the starter edition, so...
It wasn't meant to be a bounding variable between all versions, if that's what you're implying. :p

I go to program files > Microsoft > OEMOffice14 > OStarter > en-us > (installation files)

Yes, The Student version is not expansive. You know why?

Your answer - because you buy separate version, each application costs very expansive, $140. And you purchase the separate version calculate out (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote) is already $560, and expansive than the professional version. The Home and student is only $119.99 for 1 user 1 pc only and $149.99 for multiple pc and user. The differences are big. $560-$150=$410

@Bill2: "Office Starter 2010 is NOT available for purchase, it only comes preinstalled. Where did you get the installation file from?"
re: 1 - You can easly get it from the revovery partition of the laptop with preinstaled Office 2010 starter. 2 - You can download it legaly from Microsoft web site (if You are system builder; or if You sign in as a system builder): Microsoft Office Starter 2010 .

Anyway, does anyone know how to install the Microsoft Office Starter 2010 on Windows 8? I get a message that I need Windows Vista with a SP1 or later. I can install it on Vista or Windows 7 without problems. I can also run To-Go version (on flashdrive) on Vista and W7 but not W8, the same error.

I don't want to install and register my legal Academic Edition version on the W8CP until final version of the windows 8.
