My Quickheal Pro just expired and currently I'm using Windows Defender which comes pre-installed in Windows 8. Do I need to buy another antivirus or this will work fine?

A subjective opinion from a pleased user: Windows Defender in Windows 8 is a well working and good AV solution. I have quite a many Windows 8 computers both at home and work, all of them running the native Defender.

In my opinion you will not need a third party AV solution.

+1 for Windows Defender. It's all I use these days and I've had no issues, same goes for almost everyone else I talk to.

I think Windows Defender is fine. If I was to buy a third party, I'd get Kaspersky. That is crazy good but it's expensive.
