How do you take screenshots in WDP? Where do I save it? I use to save it in Paint and now its gone.

The snipping tool is still there in it.

Just type "snip" in the start menu search, and under apps there. You could open it, right click, pin it to taskbar and metro start screen. You can choose where to save the snips.

It is real buggy in taking screenshots of the Metro screen though.


Problems steps recorder is stil there too. Type "steps" in seach, and do the same for it.

I use FastStone Capture. Works great. You get a 30 day free trial, however, it's worth the price to buy it.

As Aaron mentioned about Snip, it's a bit buggy with Metro. If I didn't have a multiple monitor setup, I couldn't take rectangular selection captures as I have to initiate the selection on the desktop of one monitor and then drag over to the monitor with Metro on it. I, then, just open the captured pic and refine the selection with another rectangle capture.

Yeah, a bit of a pain but still as efficient as any method I've tried so far in Win 8 and Metro.

Fastone Capture used to be free until version 5.3. If you hunt around you can still grab a copy of this, the only snag is that it is not the latest version and therefore not up to date. Other free software which works good in windows is shotty but as this works from an icon in the taskbar I do not think it would be able to capture the metro menu.

Alternatively, simply hit the print screen button, open up M$ paint (or your default picture editing program) then paste it as a new image.

To find paint - press windows key and r to bring up the run requester and type in mspaint and hit the OK button

or

Go to the metro screen, open search from the metro menu (old start menu) and type in paint. Right click paint and hit the pin button to pin to the metro menu or left click to open.

Try grabber_2k a really old program which you might find still available on some archive sites or snagit.exe - you can get portable versions of these so you can execute them off a usb without having to install them.
