This is a huge problem. There is long thread at Windows 8 Store Won't Open? - Microsoft Community
Still unsolved. I replied there and want to repeat it here.. to spread the word
Microsoft, could you please wake up?! Obviously many users can NOT access the Windows Store, let beside no other 'App' starts, not 'Finance', not 'Weather', nothing. All the 'suggestions' are, sorry, bullshit. The best one can expect is to not break the system completely. Do not try any of this, it does not work. The problem lies much deeper and is not fixable by registry editing, dll-register, new user account, fonts,... blaba. ONLY MICROSOFT CAN COME UP WITH A FIX.

Hi Brink, thank you for your reply, but i tried allready all the suggestions except refresh/fresh install. This is not an option to me, since i upgraded and have tons of desktop applications, a lot of games with patches and so on.

NOPE. Found errors and fixed them but no change to the Windows Store. I still need Fiddler software to be able to open the store.

As a sideline, I don't know how long this has been an issue because of not using the Metro Apps. But last Sunday I installed the Pro Version of MALWAREBYTES and SECURE STORAGE BACKUP or whatever it is called. Found quite a bit of Malware and fixed that .... could that be a related issue?

Potential Fix

I posted this on another forum, for some people it works and others it does not. Just spreading the fix around.

  1. Open cmd in administrator
  2. Run the following command without quotes: "powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml"
It will take about a min to do its stuff, but it will make the store start to work. For some people this does not work and just throws them errors of corrupt files.

I gave up. Fortunately I cloned my original hard and put it back in my PC. Then updated it, then cloned it back to the faster hard drive and finally upgraded to 8.1.
