Solved Music App - No Sound - Suspended when switched

Not sure when this happened - but I am no longer able to play music with the Microsoft Music app when switched to desktop or another app. When switching, the music app is immediately suspended and sound and playback ceases.
In the past, music continued playing in the background and when I adjusted the volume, a display would come up showing the current song playing. It seemed that the app was integrated into the system in this way, but no longer.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have the Realtek HD Audio Software installed.
I also have Windows Media Center installed.

I have attached a picture of a sound control panel tab which I thought may be related but changing the settings has had no effect.

it should still work in the background.

have you changed anything recently (since it stopped working)? updated drivers? installed software?

I uninstalled the app. Then re-installed. Everything is working as normal now. I should have just tried this first.
Still a very strange thing to happen.
