Poor you, it would seem that Win 8 has been a bad move for you. . .
Anyway have you made an attempt to see if you can update the software and drivers for the touch pad. Never liked them myself (not coordinated enough to use them), albeit sometimes that can be the problem when installing a new OS. Sometimes if just not the OS, but the lack of a proper driver (fault of touch pad manufacture).
Two things you can do:
1. See who the manufacture is and go to their web site to see if any are available.
2. Go to the site of the laptop manufacture and see if they have an update to the driver.
