Solved Adobe 10 and Word "not responding" for a minute or so

We need to updates out XP desktops in our small office. Instead of going to Windows 7, I thought it made sense to try to go right to 8. So I build up a new box with 8G ram and a Quad Core AMD CPU. I ran it at home for a week or so and it seemed fine.

Then I brought it to the office and mapped out a network drive. When I open a file from the network in either Word or Acrobat Reader 10, I can navigate in the file for a few seconds, then get hit with a "not responding" message. That lasts for a minute or so, then the application works again.

I did some searching and saw this problem with windows 7. One suspect with the video adapter drivers. Those are all up to date though. I tried opening files from a data partition of the boot hard drive. It happens a lot less, but still does happen.

I sort or regret loading the USB 3.0 drivers for the MSI motherboard. That seemed to make the USB connected DVD drive a lot less reliable.

I'm not sure where to go from here. I made a full image each day for a couple weeks. I might try to go back to an earlier config to see what happens.

Any sugestions?

I guess it was the word 2013 connecting through e live account. Weird, that even messed up Adobe. Go figure.
