help i cant find volume mixer / audio mixer in windows 8

I am trying to install pinnacle studio 16 ultimate in windows 8. They say it is compatible however I am not getting any sound in the programme. The helpline says I need to turn on sound for this programme in something called volume mixer or audio mixer. Where and how do I find this in Windows 8. I am getting desperate as I cannot find my way around windows 8 as it does not seem intuitive to me. Just difficult!!! Please any one Help!!!!

Is your sound generally working but just not for this program? Anyway, go to your start page and just type "volume" (without the quotes). You do not need to type into a search box or anything else... just be on that page and a menu will pop up. Then, click on the options boxed in red and your "mixer" will pop up:

If norepli's suggestion doesn't work then go to "Control Panel" and click on the "Sound" icon. Once it come up then see if you have a choice of either "Digital Audio," or "Speakers/Headphones." If you are not using an HDMI out and it is indicating Digital Audio then choice "Speakers/Headphones" then click on "Set Default." Good Luck.

What about something more advanced?
For example, you are speaking by skype with a friend and you want him to listen to a song.
That's you want to redirect the music player to the audio mixer, mix it with your voice and send it to him. real-time, of course.
Two variations may happen, you also want to listen to the song, or you want that only him is able to do it.

How do you get it?

There are some very old programs able to do it, such as virtual audio cable, but they don't work with Windows 8.
