Import pictures - can't select folder

Hello
I'm trying to import pictures from external device (in this case - android phone with PTP) and in the import dialog I've selected "import settings" and then I'm trying to change "Import images to" location, but when I click on Browse and select the same path I was using on windows 7 (on E: partition) I get error "You cannot import to this folder. Choose another location" which, frankly, doesn't make much sense. I've tried permissions and so forth and I can easily browse and save picture there, I'm the owner and all that. Why Pictures Importer complains and doesn't allow me to use this location? I don't want to import to %profile%/Pictures because it's small-ish system drive :|

Try creating the partition/drive you want as a Library - Nope - that didn't work, either.

Searched and found this - not ideal, but it worked for me.

You can get the "old" functionality back by creating a shortcut:

  1. right-click desktop, "new shortcut"
  2. paste the following in as the location:
    %SystemRoot%\system32\rundll32.exe "%SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\photoAcq.dll",PhotoAndVideoAcquire
  3. hit next and type a name - e.g. photo import wizard
  4. hit finish
now you should have a shortcut and when you double-click it, you should see a list of connected devices that you can import photos from

but the problem is not that I don't see import device from which I want to grab photos - it's the destination that's not working..

How are you importing, what program are you using?

What drive letter is your phone?

what drive letter is your target?

Is your target another external device?

If you create the Import Photo Import Wizard per the directions I shared it has an Options link that lets you set the destination folder, but only when your device is attached and has at least one photo available to import.
