Solved Can't Delete Some Tiles

I've copied the following from another post that was posted last November, but never received an answer. I'm having the same exact issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So, I have been trying to rid my Toshiba Satellite of a ton of bloatware they put on a new laptop running Windows 8. There are also some unnecessary Windows 8 tiles I can't get rid of from the big blue Metro start up screen.

Some, the ones that I guess are "apps" I can right click on, select "unpin" and they're gone, but others I cannot get rid of

Here's how my problem presents:

I select ALL APPS by right clicking on the blue Metro start screen.

Then I right click something like a game "It Girl" or "Polar Bowler" and I see PIN TO START, which I don't want to do, UNINSTALL, which I DO want to do, RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, or OPEN FILE LOCATION. Uninstall just takes me to the control panel's "add/remove programs." Well there are no games there. I uninstalled them from there already. The other options just take me to the desktop

I'd love to be able to delete these tiles (some games, but also a number of Toshiba programs I'm never going to use.) But I've been unable to find the key.

Help?

Hello Erin, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You might double check in the hidden folders below to see if there may be a shortcut to these uninstalled games still there. If so, deleting them should remove them from the "Apps" (All Apps) screen as well.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/20705-apps-screen-add-remove-items-windows-8-a.html

For Current Account Only:
C:\Users\User-Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

For All User Accounts: (must be administrator)
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Hope this helps, :)

Hi Shawn,

Thanks so much for your response.

Nothing listed under C:\Users\ etc.

There were shortcuts listed under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Games
…..but when I delete them….they still show up on the “all apps” screen.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

While on the "Apps" screen, right click on the game, and click on "Open File Location". This will take you to where it's at to delete it.

One more hidden location to check as well:

C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Hi Again,

There is nothing listed under C:\Users\Default\ etc.

I tried right clicking on the icon on the all apps screen and check the location…..it just shows it’s listed under “games”…..no other information for the file location.

I have even run a search for all locations for “polar”…..one of the games is called Polar Bowler Strike….and I go to every location that’s listed and delete the files…..and it still shows up on the all apps screen.

E

OMG! It worked!

I thought dealing with the registry editor was a little above my pay grade....but decided what the heck....and followed the directions very carefully.

I got rid of one of them......the Polar Bowler....glad he is gone! I only have about 10 to go.

Thank you soooo much for your time. I have spent hours trying to figure this out.

Have a nice night.....Erin

Since it is games, you might check using the tutorial below to see if it's still in the Games Explorer folder, and deleting it if so.

Games Explorer Folder - Delete a Game - Windows 7 Support Forums

Hi,

I joined the forum to say that this also worked perfectly for me. I've been trying for several hours to get rid of all traces of WildTangent games that came on my new HP laptop. I had the same issue of tiles on the Metro screen that could not be deleted, but they're gone now.

Thank you!
