Synergy Keyboard and Mouse Sharing Does Not Work Correctly

I have used Synergy for keyboard/mouse sharing for a long time. I can install it and start it on Win 8, but when certain windows are open, it no longer works. For instance, I can open the control panel window, and it's still working, but if I open Device Manager, for instance, it stops working.

I have also found this, it is to do with UAC in Windows 8, even if you disable it via the normal Control Panel method - UAC is still actually running as Metro apps need UAC running otherwise they don't work. You can disable it permanently via a registry hack, but that would cause Metro apps to not work. I personally have a backup mouse connected to the machine which if I open something and lose the mouse I still have a chance to do a couple of things other than going to find the other mouse of move mice between machines just to sort out Windows 8!

I have the same problem. I use Visual Studio a lot, and have to run it as admin so that it can debug my IIS sites, and this means when the visual studio window is focused, synergy doesn't work. To get it to work, all I do is click on the task bar and then it works fine. It is an extra step which is quite annoying, but once you get a bit used to it, it's not a major one.
