Hi everyone, I am running into a little issue with my Lync 2013. I must be missing some information but I can't log into lync no matter what I try. I bought the 2013 office home use program for 11 dollars so it came with lync 2013. How do I use this little thing? Looks so neat yet I can't log in T.T
I'm using Win8 x64 btw.
Error is: [h=1]Cannot sign in because the server is temporarily unavailable[/h]Thanks all!

Put in your corporate email address, user ID and password and it should connect. Of course you need to be running Lync Server 2010 or 2013 at your corporate office for it to work.

Hi Canuckythe,

as R0bR already said you must be running a Lync server to loggon to. Lync was formerly know as "Microsoft Office Communicator". It's the BUSINESS version of MSN Messenger. It was created to allow people inside a company to chat with each other etc. without using the public MSN servers.

So it's not a replacement for MSN (which is going down per 15th March and will be replaced by Skype).

If your office has a Lync server running the IT people might be able to tell you the server address etc.

Good luck!

Not only that, the Lync server at your office has to be configured a very specific way, and be publicly available, to work. You can't just install Lync at the office and have it work on the internet, at least not right away:
Download Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Mobility Guide from Official Microsoft Download Center

Your IT staff has to configure the Lync Mobility service and Autodiscovery, and make sure those are available to public users via the internet. It's not difficult to do for a Lync admin, but it is work, it must be secured properly, and it isn't *easy* either. Putting a real-time collaboration platform (and potentially SIP calling platform as well) on the public internet AND a corporate network is complicated :).
