32-bit Setup Launcher not working

Well as the title says, some (all?) 32-bit setup launchers will not run for me on W8Pro.

I am fairly certain that they did some weeks ago, but not any more. In all the cases I tried, it is older game installers.

I can get them running in safe mode, by using the original CD, or copying the install files to my HDD, so they are technically supported, but something about W8Pro won't let me run them. If I open the task manager, I see "32-bit Setup Launcher (32 bits)" running, not frozen, but not working.

On a fluke I got one installer running once, but I could not reproduce what I did.

Anyone encountered this problem? It's still kind of hard to google W8 problems...

I have the EXACT same issues. Win 8.1 Pro (32 bit edition). 32 bit setup launchers previously worked fine on my system.

I cloned my HD to an SSD and now the 32 bit setup launcher does exactly what yours does: it runs, its not frozen but the app install never proceeds. Modern installers work fine but the ones from older software do not run. They do however work in safe mode.

At this point I am not sure if it is the clone to SSD that caused the issue or if it is coincidence. The ONLY other change made to the system post clone was to install the Samsung Magician application to benchmark and optimize the SSD. Anecdotally the original HD (before the clone) still runs the old 32 bit setup launcher correctly.

At this point I am not sure if my best option is a straight fresh install of Win 8.1 or if there is some way to resolve the issue and save me the time of re-configuring my OS and re-installing apps. It appears to be the only thing not functioning correctly post clone.

Anyone else run into this issue?

I have not found a solution, but a fresh re-install did not fix it, so maybe that will save you some time. Also, I'm on 64-bit Win 8.1...

Well, in my case I found a solution. It turns out that the Logitech Setpoint software that was installed was the offender. Once that was disabled in the startup items the old 32-bit setup installer worked fine. Strangely, it was not an issue before I cloned.

I have had issues with Logitech software in the past so honestly it was really no huge surprise that it was causing a problem for me here either. The Logitech software has been removed and I am back in business.

If your issue persists even after a clean Windows install it must be a different cause then what I experienced. Sounds like it is possibly hardware related.

It's probably not hardware related, as I tried the installer on 3 different computers. However, all of them had SetPoint as I'm a Logitech guy... ;-)

I have seen SetPoint causing troubles for other software as well, so this could very well be the culprit.

Right now I have no desire to test it thou, as I already fixed all the programs/games that were affected with other means.

This is unbeleivable I have the same problem tested millions of things but this Logitech issue solve my case too... CLosed the logitech application and its works. Thanks for million times.

Hi,
This solution solves my problem. I stopped one of the Logitech application in Startup and restarted the system and now setup works like a charm.
