"metro" apps won't run, resolution too low

So I decided to plug my tablet into an HD monitor using HDMI, the tablet changes to 1280x720 which was expected, then I go to launch the Netflix app and it says resolution too low. I check all my other "metro" apps and they say the same thing. Is there a way to work around this?

My display chip is not happy at 1920x1080 and for what I'm watching the 720 streams would be better. I tried running Netflix through Media Center, but the processor is too low to make this work, same goes for a web browser like Firefox (a non-"metro" application).

try 1360x768, that's the minimum some apps will run at.

Thanks but one of the things I'm trying to do is record the screen with an HDMI recorder for tutorial videos and i know the computer won't go up to 1920x1080 and the recorder won't handle the resolutions in between like most TVs will handle. I'm really surprised they wouldn't make this run at 1280x720 since that is a real standardized resolution and something that might be seen in a media PC, I guess they want everyone to buy an Xbox for media.
