Windows 8 is under the hood I understand pretty much windows 7. Since I have had this new Win 8 (came with my gaming laptop) I have found so many apps that will not run. I also get errors on some apps that are trying to install.. 704 errors. I Google search says this is due to corrupt windows files - don't believe that, this is straight out the box.

I have never had this much trouble getting apps to work when moving from one system to another.. even the switch from XP to Vista/Win 7 didn't give me this much trouble. I'm frustrated.

For example a couple of apps I rely heavily on in win 7 are:

Pserv 3 which comes bundled with the Gtools from this site: p-nand-q.com : Computer : gtools : pserv3 Pserv3 is an app which lets me set only the services I want to run and store them as an xml file. I can load this profile whenever I need my system to run with minimal services. This helps the PC run much faster for the task at hand is awesome for games, ( better than any game booster app) by not allowing extra services to run you don't need taking up resources. People say you don't need this app because win 7 does a great job of managing resources.. I say Horse hokey.. try this app and you'll be amazed at how much extra power you'll get disabling unneeded processes and services. ( Warning, if you do this, you Must study all the services in your system to know which ones are safe to permanently disable. - takes a day or two to learn) AFAIK, this app is one of a kind, otherwise I'd try another app that does the same job.

The other heavily relied on app is Menu Uninstaller Lite from https://sites.google.com/site/leizersoftware/home This app gives you a right click menu option on desktop shortcuts that lets you uninstall the app directly from the shortcut. I may be able to find another app that does this but haven't as of yet.

I consider these Must Have apps and if I can't run them on windows 8, I may be forced to install a copy of windows 7 on this laptop. There are many more apps I didn't mention. I don't know if it's really a problem with my windows installation or if it's the apps themselves. Can you help?

if you tried out running the program in windows 7 compatibility mode (or vista) and it still doesn't work, check the developer support page for that software title.

the one I'm waiting for is FRAPS. its windows 8 support is crummy.
