All programs displayed fine in Windows 7, but after doing a clean install of Windows 8, many non-Microsoft programs including Open Office, Adobe Acrobat, iTunes, Photocopier Pro, Epson Scan, dBPoweramp, Exact Audio Copy & Xenu are very blurry. It's not just text input in the programs, but the entire screen. Other programs including WordPerfect, VLC Media Player, Firefox, Filezilla, FoxIt Reader, Google Earth & Microsoft products display perfectly.

I found a post in which someone had a similar problem with Open Office, Adobe Acrobat & Quicken in Windows 7. He solved his problem as follows:

In Performance Options:
Clear ALL boxes except for the following:
Smooth edges of screen fonts.
Smooth-scroll list boxes.
Use visual styles on windows and buttons.
Quicken, OpenOffice, Adobe "fuzzy?" - Windows 7 Forums

In Windows 8, the Performance Options are indexed under System in Control Panel as "Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows". I checked Custom setup under Visual Effects and unchecked all the boxes except Smooth edges of screen fonts and Smooth-scroll list boxes. Unfortunately, the changes had no effect on the programs that display poorly. I also tried unchecking all the boxes, which did not work. Something else I tried that didn't work was to make the following changes in Ease of Access Center >> Make the computer easier to use >> Make the computer easier to see

Turn on or off High Contrast - UNCHECK
Make the focus rectangle thicker - UNCHECK
Turn off all unnecessary animations (when possible) - CHECK
Remove background images (where available) - CHECK

Does anyone have a suggestion of how to proceed?

I have tried two different graphics cards, a Matrox and an Asus nVidia, and have exactly the same problem with each. The programs that display poorly apparently display in a lower res, probably 1028x764, instead of the 1920x1200 in which Windows and the properly behaving programs display.
