I've made significant progress to get Windows 8 usable on a PC.

Three of my favourites are

Classic Shell &
Oblytile at [APP] OblyTile - Tile Creator for all programs. - xda-developers - Allows you to customise tiles!!!
Creation of a shutdown shortcut & tile

There is one major thing outstanding for me. I want to start an Windows 8 App from the desktop.
I've figured out that they are stored in c:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps but a normal shortcut does not seem to work. It states "This application can only be run in the context of an application container"

I can run them from the Classic Shell menu but I am a loss as to how to create a shortcut to run them. I don't mind if the shortcut is to a "launching application", etc. Utopia would be to run them in a window but quite happy to accept them starting full screen in "metro" mode. Any help or guidance would be really appreciated.

That paid app called RetroUI Pro recently added the ability to run Metro apps in a window. Although I don't think they get a button on the taskbar which is what I would have liked.
